PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Broncos earn consolation bracket crown at King of the Smokies Tournament

Holly Pond’s varsity boys capped off the King of the Smokies Tournament in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. with a terrific performance, downing Rowen County (Ky.) 60-42 on Saturday afternoon to nab the consolation bracket crown.

Zach Shaw led the Green and White (15-3) with 16 huge points, while Griffin Morris (12), McKinley Garrett (12) and Jake Harris (eight) also contributed offensively.

% West Point 57, Corner 52: The Warriors claimed third place at their annual Christmas tournament on Friday night with a tight victory against the Yellow Jackets.

Kolton Sapp (20), Rylan Jones (12), Whitt Laney (eight) and Austin Dubberly (seven) were the top scorers for a West Point team that improved to 8-8 this season.

Sapp (22), Dubberly (13) and Laney (eight) came up with multiple buckets in a 70-51 loss to Meek on Thursday.


Junior Varsity Girls

Fairview took down Vestavia Hills (39-27), Briarwood Christian (33-17) and Oak Mountain (29-26) to notch the crown at the Decatur Orthopaedic Clinic Classic.

The Lady Aggies (8-1) defeated the Class 7A Lady Eagles in the championship game on Friday.


Ninth-Grade Boys

Cullman bested Muscle Shoals on Friday night to win the West Point Christmas Tournament.

The Bearcats also finished second in the junior varsity division following a loss to Muscle Shoals.
