PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Good Hope, West Point notch wins on final day of tournament

WEST POINT — The homestanding Warriors bounced back from a rough loss on Thursday with a 57-53 win against Corner in the third-place game of the West Point Christmas Tournament on Friday.

The Maroon and White improved to 8-8 with the victory.

% Good Hope 58, Danville 48: Isaac McDonald tallied 20 points, while Cole Maddox and Michael Lowe both provided 11 for the Raiders in Friday’s fifth-place game at the West Point Christmas Tournament.

Landyn Freeman (seven) and Noah Fendley (six) were also good for the Red and White, now 8-7 this season.

% Holly Pond 75, Elizabethton (Tenn.) 55: The Broncos showed out in grand fashion on Friday afternoon, dominating their Day 2 opponent at the King of the Smokies Tournament in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

Kyler Chaney led Holly Pond with 16 points, while Zach Shaw, Griffin Morris and Tyler Boatright all nabbed 10.

The Green and White (14-3) will wrap up tournament play on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

% Haleyville 54, Fairview 52: The sixth-ranked squad in 4A secured the big victory at the Albertville Civitans Christmas Classic on Friday after a last-second shot by the Aggies rimmed out as time expired.

Bryson Fletcher led Fairview (8-7) with 25 points, while Luke Yarbrough had 12.

% Priceville 62, Cold Springs 44: The Eagles couldn’t hold up on the final day of the West Point Christmas Tournament on Friday.

Hunter McClendon (11), Adam Hill (10), Logan Rice (eight), Dylan Byrd (seven) and Matthew Peed (five) led Cold Springs in a balanced offensive effort.


Varsity Girls

% Cullman 69, Vestavia Hills 49: Anna Katherine Eastman continued her solid play for the Lady Bearcats on Friday, corralling a game-high 28 points in a triumph at the Lady Devil Holiday Tournament in Mortimer Jordan.

Cullman (12-8) was also aided by Hannah Hoffman (12), Kennedy Wren (seven), Anna Grace Murphy (seven) and Anna Evans (six) in the easy win.

% Lawrence County (Tenn.) 66, West Point 60: The 5A No. 8 Lady Warriors closed the Northwest Alabama Christmas Tournament at Lauderdale County with a tough loss on Friday night. 

Lexi Shadix (18), Micah Oldacre (12) and Miriam Oldacre (10) led West Point (12-6) offensively.

% West Point 61, Susan Moore 60: Miriam Oldacre’s 22 points helped the 5A No. 8 Lady Warriors pick up a tight victory at the Northwest Alabama Christmas Tournament at Lauderdale County on Friday.

Micah Oldacre tossed in 11, while Lexi Shadix and Brooke Brownfield each nabbed eight versus the 3A No. 9 Lady Bulldogs.

% Hartselle 50, Fairview 42: Abbi Taylor grabbed 15 points and nine rebounds, but the 6A No. 4 Lady Tigers made more plays down the stretch to pull out the victory at Friday’s Decatur Orthopaedic Clinic Classic.

McKinna Yearwood (11) and Taylor Ann Yeager (nine) also provided points for Fairview (11-6).

% Section 52, Cold Springs 50: The Lady Eagles lost a heartbreaker in their final outing at the Lady Patriots Classic in DAR on Friday.

Camryn Crider (22 points) and Elizabeth Hill (16 points, nine rebounds and six assists) contributed fine efforts for Cold Springs, which dropped to 8-8 overall following their third straight loss.

% Briarwood Christian 40, Good Hope 39 (2OT): The Lady Raiders dropped a tight one in the semifinals of the Blue Devil Holiday Tournament at Mortimer Jordan on Thursday night.

Leyton Seal (13) and Kate Kent (11) were the top scorers for Good Hope, which missed 12 free throws on the evening to fall short of reaching the championship outing.
