PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: St. Bernard defeats J.B. Pennington 60-45 for tournament title

St. Bernard’s varsity boys defeated J.B. Pennington 60-46 on Friday afternoon to collect the crown at their annual Christmas Tournament and improve to 7-3 overall.
Elijah Price (17 points and eight rebounds), Christian Peterson (15 points and nine assists) and Gavin Whaley (11 points and five rebounds) were the top contributors for the Saints.
% Southeastern 80, Vinemont 51: The Eagles fell hard in the consolation matchup at the St. Bernard Christmas Tournament on Friday.
Katch Johnson scored 23 points for Vinemont.
Varsity Girls
% Montevallo 59, Cullman 54: The Lady Bearcats fell to 9-7 after a close loss at the Spain Park Pre-Christmas Tournament on Friday.
Anna Katherine Eastman (16) and Hannah Hoffman (12) racked up double digits, while Alexandria Barker, Anna Grace Murphy and Kennedy Wren each finished with six points.
“We struggled today in our execution and putting the ball in the hole,” Cullman coach Josh Hembree said. “We missed a ton of easy shots and turned the ball over in advantaged situations. Tremendous effort by our girls, but we did not play our best ball.”
% Cleveland 62, Vinemont 18: The Lady Eagles couldn’t make it two straight wins, dropping a tough one in the championship game of the St. Bernard Christmas Tournament on Friday.
Bailey Preiss led Vinemont with six points.
% Southeastern 50, St. Bernard 41: The Lady Saints couldn’t win Friday’s consolation game at the St. Bernard Christmas Tournament.
Emma Tafazoli (18) and Claire Sanders (17) were the top scorers for their squad.
