WARRIOR—The Warrior City Council opened bids for the city’s garbage and recycling services at its Monday night council meeting. The city currently has service with Republic, but when the company announced there would be price increase for a new contract, the city leaders decided to request bids from other providers to compare. The city also asked for bids for curbside recycling pickup, which is not currently offered.

Republic bid on the garbage service, bidding a cost of $37.53 per quarter for garbage pickup, but did not submit a bid for recycling.

Waste Pro submitted a bid of $11.07 per week or $33.21 per quarter for garbage pickup and $4.70 per month or $14.10 per quarter for recycling pickup twice a month. The service has an all or nothing recycling program, meaning all customers would have to have it and pay the additional $4.70 a month. For both services, it would be $47.31 per quarter.

Santek also submitted a bid of $13.88 per month for garbage pickup and $6.30 per home for recycling for a total quarterly cost of $60.54 per customer.

According to Mayor Johnny Ragland, the city has approximately 850 homes that will be impacted by this service.

The city is currently operating under a three-month contract extension with Republic.

The council has called a special meeting on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. at city hall to decide which company will service the city for garbage pickup.

The council will also discuss allowing a Boy Scout troop to meet in a city building and payroll transfers for the fire department and transport service from the transport fund to the general fund.
