A report of a stolen farm truck Tuesday led to a high-speed chase into Cullman and the arrest of a Blountsville man after the vehicle he was driving flipped.

Dylan Keith Loyd, 26, was arrested on Alabama 157, where the reported stolen vehicle flipped near the Jack’s restaurant around 10 a.m. There were no injuries to bystanders, law enforcement officers or the suspect, according to a news release from the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office.

The black Chevrolet truck was stolen on County Road 783 between Berlin and Holly Pond. Deputies were notified and saw the truck traveling west on U.S. 278 and then turn back on to Alabama 157. Deputies began pursuing the suspect and were assisted by officers from the Cullman Police Department.

“I was proud of the quick response of our deputies in identifying and arresting the suspect. I wish we could have recovered the truck for the owner without the suspect wrecking but this guy obviously had no regard for others property by stealing it in the first place. He was showing no regard for civilian life, the deputies lives or his life by driving so recklessly before he wrecked,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry.

Loyd has been charged with two counts of first-degree receiving stolen property, one count of first-degree theft of property, one count of fleeing and eluding police and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. The suspect has several traffic violations as well and other charges could be added later as the investigation proceeds, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
