Basketball Recap: Colby Jones, Ronnie Wright record double-doubles

Mortimer Jordan 61, Pelham 56

A deep triple from Nolan Dean late in the fourth quarter pretty much put this one away. Dean’s big shot gave Mortimer Jordan a 4-point cushion with 1:30 remaining in the game. The sophomore finished with 13 points.

Junior Ronnie Wright came through with a double-double for the home team, pouring in 15 points while securing 10 rebounds. Nolan Lewis finished with a team-best 17 points.

For Pelham, Justin Allison delivered with 25 points.

The Blue Devils return home for a cross-classification bout with Gardendale on Friday night.

Girls: Mortimer Jordan 52, Pelham 19

Mountain Brook 81, Pinson Valley 70

Pinson Valley sophomore Colby Jones didn’t disappoint on Thursday night. The sophomore went home with a double-double (27 points and 10 boards) against Class 7A No. 1 Mountain Brook.

Geordon Pollard (13 points) and Micah Mitchell (12 points) also reached double digits on the statline. Point guard Kewaski Jackson dished out eight assists for the home team.

The Indians visit Center Point next Tuesday.
