Plenty of holiday cheer around the corner

- Cullman Parks and Recreation employee Joey Teichmiller assembles the city’s Christmas tree Tuesday that will be lit Friday evening after the annual Christmas parade down First Avenue. This year’s tree is taller and features a surprise that is sure to wow those planning to attend Christmas in Cullman.
Friday is the first day of December, and that means Cullman and surrounding areas will be kicking off the holiday season with Christmas events over the weekend.
Today is the deadline to register for the Cullman Christmas Parade, which will be hosted by Cullman Parks and Recreation on Friday at 6 p.m.

Entry into the parade is free; entrants need to fill out a form that can be picked up and returned to the Cullman Civic Center or complete the application online at cullmanrecreation.org by 5 p.m.
Any types of entries are accepted, but floats must be lit or have some kind of Christmas lighting as part of their floats.
The parade route will begin at Busy Bee Cafe and continue through downtown Cullman, down 1st Ave., then ending at Depot Park.

Cullman’s parade isn’t the only Christmas event set for this weekend, as Cullman Parks and Recreation will also be hosting the annual “Holly Market” Christmas Arts & Crafts Show from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m on Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.on Saturday.
The craft show will be at the Cullman Civic Center, and will feature more than 80 vendors of handmade craft items of all sorts.

Admission to the show is free. Vendors will range in a variety from handmade jewelry, wood working, handmade clothing and apparel, food items, pottery, and other handmade items.

The Fairview Lions Club will also hold their Christmas parade at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, beginning at Academic Drive by the school and proceeding down Wesley Avenue.
Afterward at the park, there will be a reading of the Christmas story with hot chocolate and cookies, and Santa will also be making an appearance.

The events don’t stop with the weekend, as the Classy Seniors will be showing their art, free of charge, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Dec. 4-8, at the Donald E. Green Senior Center at Ingle Park.
