KIMBERLY—Residents of the Promise Manor subdivision in Kimberly made a few suggestions on Monday night during the city’s bimonthly council meeting.
According to homeowners in the community, which is located roughly one mile from Mortimer Jordan High School, speeding has been a problem in the area for some time now. The city is looking into the matter, leaving open the possibility of erecting additional speed limit signs. Promise Manor’s current speed limit is posted at 20 miles per hour, five notches up from what it once was.
Kimberly Mayor Bob Ellerbrock mentioned that the city looked into installing speed breakers in the subdivision in the past, but the process eventually ‘died.’
One concerned citizen stated that the problem goes beyond the basic, everyday vehicles that travel those roadways. Based on what she has seen, large construction vehicles build speed on one particular grade, resulting in high speeds down the slope.
“The speeding is concrete trucks and dump trucks. They gas it to get up a long hill and then when they come back, they’re just falling off of it,” she said to the Kimberly City Council.
Residents of Promise Manor then pointed to a problem involving vehicle parking.
“People have started parking excessive amounts of vehicles on the streets in blind spots, so I almost hit the school bus head on today because of [limited visibility],” said one concerned citizen to the council.
The city is now looking into the possibility of placing “no parking” signs in two different problem areas in the neighborhood.
“We’re looking to see if there’s anything we can do about that because that’s a problem,” said Ellerbrock.
In other business, the council:
•voted to repair the city’s Bobcat at a cost of $1,936.72.
•passed a resolution to install a fire hydrant at the North Jefferson Church of Christ.
The Kimberly City Council meets next on Nov. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in city hall.
