- Randall Baldwin, executive chef at Dyron's Lowcountry in Birmingham, briefs kitchen staff at Saturday's Farm to Fork dinner. Baldwin helmed the menu for the event, treating local farmers to a seriously delicious dinner — all made from locally-sourced produce.
This year’s Farm City events wrap up next week, when the Cullman Farm family for 2017 is announced at the annual Farm to Fork Dinner at the Cullman Civic Center.
Tickets for the event are on sale now at all branches of Merchants Bank, Cullman Savings Bank and Peoples Bank, as well as from Farm City committee members. Tickets are $15 apiece through Friday and will be $20 apiece thereafter until Wednesday, the last day to purchase. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
All former Farm and City Families of the Year will be honored at this year’s Farm to Fork Dinner. The Triumphant Quartet, an award-winning Southern Gospel group with local ties, will provide entertainment.
Each year, Farm City season celebrates the Cullman area’s tradition of urban-rural partnership, promoting the cooperation and interdependence between the farming community and the city community.
For 2017, the committee participated in the summer-long 2nd Friday series at the Festhalle Market Platz, where they held beekeeping demonstrations and hosted games to help teach area children about the local origin of much of the food they eat. Members also recently served breakfast to the farmers who sell their goods at the farmers market.
Agriculture has been the focus for this year’s Farm City, with the committee designating “Agriculture: Food For Life” as the theme for 2018’s Farm City activities.
