- West Morgan's defense tackles Holly Pond's Jeremiah Holmes.
Holly Pond found it tough sledding Thursday night in a 35-0 loss to No. 10 West Morgan in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.
The Broncos (7-4) only crossed midfield once, and that drive was aided by numerous West Morgan penalties. Holly Pond gained just 99 yards of offense and threw four interceptions.
It was the second straight year the Broncos reached the postseason after missing the playoffs in seven of the previous eight years. West Morgan (10-1), meanwhile, won a playoff outing for the first time in nine years and advance to play either Ohatchee or Sylvania.
Gabe Peluso scored four touchdowns for the Rebels and ran for 123 yards to go along with 6 of 11 passing for 136 yards. His favorite target was Maurice Gray, who caught five passes for 110 yards and a score.
Peluso’s 71-yard pass to Gray got the scoring started, and his 2- and 57-yard scoring runs made it 21-0 at the half. Peluso scored another rushing touchdown in the third quarter and Samuel Thorne capped the scoring in the fourth with a short run.
