The Cullman Farm-City Committee recently kicked off Farm-City activities with a proclamation breakfast. Mayors from all local municipalities signed the proclamation naming Oct. 23-27 as Farm-City week, with activities highlighting events from August to November.

The theme for this year’s focus is “Agriculture: Food For Life.”

The next event will be the Farm-City tour, a free event in which all tour-goers are treated to a bus ride (courtesy of Wallace State transportation), to the Botanical Gardens to view their experimental gardens, the Golden Flake Factory to experience first-hand how farmed potatoes become chips, and then the Jones Valley Urban Farm in the city of Birmingham to see how vegetables and fruits are grown in the city to provide extra food to local participating growers. This tour follows a special breakfast held in honor of all the vendors and farmers, approximately 50-60 people, at the Festhalle Market Platz on Oct. 21.

Tickets are on sale for the Farm To Fork Banquet, to be held Nov. 16, at the Cullman Civic Center, 510 5th St. SW, Cullman. Tickets must be prepurchased; cost is $15. No tickets will be sold at the door. This is to ensure enough food is prepared and seating is available. Get your tickets at Merchants Bank or Cullman Savings Bank now through Nov. 10. After the 10th, tickets will be $20 until Nov. 15, last day of purchase.
