Tanner 28, Cold Springs 14

Cold Springs stayed close throughout but couldn’t find a way to knock off Tanner, falling 28-14 to the Rattlers Friday night in Class 2A, Region 7 play.

The Eagles jumped on top 7-0 on an Ayden Alexander run before Tanner scored and got a 2-point conversion to lead 8-7, which was the margin at the end of the first quarter. The Rattlers (3-4, 2-3) earned another score in the second quarter to take a 14-7 advantage into halftime.

That score held throughout the third quarter, but Tanner eventually took a 22-14 lead in the fourth quarter before adding another score later. Calvin McNabb had the other touchdown for the Blue and Gold (1-7, 0-5).

Cold Springs hosts Cleveland next week.

Locust Fork 48, Hanceville 24

The Bulldogs fell 48-24 to the Hornets Friday night in a Class 3A, Region 6 game.

It was the eighth straight loss for Hanceville, which fell to 1-8 on the season and 0-6 in region play. Locust Fork improved to 4-5 overall and 4-1 in region play.

Things looked good for the Purple and Gold early on, as a Bo Joles’ 1-yard touchdown run gave his team what would be the score at the end of the first quarter at 6-0.

Locust Fork took the lead with a touchdown and extra point at the 5:46 mark of the second quarter, but another Bulldogs’ touchdown — this time a Joles to Jarrett Bailey strike through the air — with 2:53 remaining in the first half made it look like Hanceville would take the halftime lead. It took just 32 seconds, though, for Locust Fork to get back on the board for a 14-12 advantage at halftime.

The teams exchanged scores throughout the third quarter, and the Hornets eventually led 35-24 heading into the fourth despite touchdown runs by Romael Simmons (22 yards) and RJ Evans (52 yards).

Locust Fork put the game away with a couple of touchdowns in the final quarter.

The Bulldogs have a bye next week.

Fultondale 55, Holly Pond 14

The sixth-ranked team in Class 3A flexed its muscles at Holly Pond on Friday night, rolling to a 55-14 over the Broncos.

Holly Pond (5-3, 2-3) took a short-lived 6-0 lead in the first quarter on a 10-yard touchdown run by Kyler Chaney, but it was all Fultondale from there. The Wildcats (8-0, 5-0) scored 28 unanswered to finish the first half and eventually took command at 35-6 early in the third quarter.

Fultondale stretched its lead to 55-6 before Holly Pond was able to cross the goal line again late in the game on a pass from Chaney to Alex Corneglio to make what would be the final score.

Holly Pond will try to secure a playoff spot next week on the road against Vinemont.

Hayden 34, Fairview 21

The Aggies stayed winless in Class 5A, Region 6 play with a 34-21 loss to Hayden on Friday night.

Fairview led 7-0 on Dayne Black’s 5-yard run midway through the first quarter, but the Aggies (2-5, 0-5) allowed 20 unanswered points to give Hayden control. The Wildcats evened its campaign at 4-4 overall and 4-1 in region play.

A pass from Black to Garrett Dunn for a touchdown in the third quarter pulled Fairview within 20-14, but Hayden responded with a score. Late in the third quarter, Black hit Scoot Bennett for a 55-yard score to make it 26-21.

Fairview didn’t find the end zone again.

The Aggies take a trip to Springville next week to finish region play.
