A Berlin man has been sentenced to more than 10 years in federal prison for unlawful possession with intent to distribute 5 grams or more of methamphetamine.
Jeffery Lee Cunningham, 47, was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge L. Scott Coogler to 130 months in prison, according to a news release from Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry.
Upon release from imprisonment, Cunningham will be on supervised release for 10 years, Gentry’s release noted.
Cullman County Narcotics Enforcement Team and federal Drug Enforcement Agency agents arrested Cunningham at his residence on County Road 759, Jan. 30, where they recovered 1.5 ounces of meth. Agents discovered the meth in a toilet in the residence before it could be destroyed.
“As I stated at that time we knew this suspect was a known drug dealer and I am glad we were able to work with DEA to get him off the streets. I am glad that DEA was able to adopt this case and now this suspect will be in prison for many years,” Gentry said. “Again, I would also like to commend CNET and the DEA on the work they did,” added Sheriff Matt Gentry.
Under Federal Truth in Sentencing the suspect will have to serve at least 85 percent of his time, according to the news release.
