Sacred Heart got the jump on Oktoberfest this year with a Saturday street sale that marked the first in a deluge of festival events set to unfold across the Cullman area this week.
Sacred Heart School Principal Greg Hughes said the street sale, aimed at raising money for the school, drew steady crowds throughout the day, an auspicious signal for how the rest of Oktoberfest week, hopefully, will go.
“It has been a good day; a successful day,” he said. “I hope we have another day like this on Wednesday.” That’s when Sacred Heart hosts its Oktoberfest German dinner, which begins service at 5 p.m. and runs through 7 p.m.
Wednesday marks the first full day of Oktoberfest celebration for many local participants — including the 6 p.m. opening ceremonies and keg tapping at the Festhalle Market Platz — but there’s still plenty of activity to tide you over, beginning at 3 p.m. today with Sacred Heart’s Combined Choir Concert.
