Mortimer Jordan quarterback Kourtlan Marsh ran in two touchdowns at Briarwood Christian Friday night, as the Blue Devils attempted to knock off the top-ranked Lions.

Corner 26, Oak Grove 0

The Yellow Jackets improved to 3-3 on the year with a shutout win in non-region play Friday night.

Corner finished the night with 384 yards from scrimmage, while holding the visitors to 74. Trent Shedd led the defense with five tackles, as the unit secured a pair of interceptions in the win.

Offensively, Corner leaned on running back Garrett Purvis who ate up 127 yards on 13 carries. Quarterback Skyler Lara completed nine of his 17 attempts for 103 yards. Logan Entrekin went up for six of those completions to finish with 74 yards.

The Jackets get back to Region 6 play next week when Curry comes to town.

Fultondale 37, Hale County 13

After tonight’s non-region win, Fultondale improves to 5-0 on the year.

The Wildcats should continue gaining votes in the Alabama Sports Writer Association 3A poll, which will be updated next Tuesday night. Fultondale sat at No. 11 in last week’s rankings.

They return to Region 6 play next Friday when J.B. Pennington visits Wildcats Field.

Gardendale 41, Chelsea 28

Gardendale hung 587 yards of offense on Chelsea tonight, as the Rockets bumped their winning streak to four games.

Much like last week’s region win over Minor, Gardendale set Stephen Lancaster loose in the open field. The senior ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries.

Gardendale also found success in the passing game, as Conner Howell (10 receptions for 151 yards and a touchdown), Jacob Wright (four receptions for 87 yards) and Owen Cupps (four receptions for 55 yards) combined for a big evening.

Senior Carson Smith led the defense with 15 tackles.

The Rockets now sit at 4-2 on the year with a region test at Clay-Chalkville on tap next Friday.

Pinson Valley 28, Shades Valley 27

With standout signal caller Bo Nix unavailable this week, No. 2 Pinson Valley sputtered at home, but found a way to earn a non-region win in overtime.

The Indians scored first in overtime on a touchdown pass to Liallen Daily, putting the home team on top, 28-21. Shades Valley answered with a touchdown of its own, but failed on a gutsy 2-point conversion attempt.

Pinson Valley improves to 6-0 going into an open date. The Indians welcome Center Point on October 13.

Briarwood Christian 25, Mortimer Jordan 17

The Blue Devils came up a little short in an effort to knock off Class 5A’s top-ranked team.

They fought back after slipping to a 15-point deficit in the third quarter, but sophomore quarterback Kourtlan Marsh tossed an interception as Mortimer Jordan attempted to even things up late in the final frame. Briarwood’s Cade Dickinson stepped in front of the pass with 1:20 remaining on the clock, according to 280living.com.

Marsh did run in two touchdowns for the boys in blue. Kicker Feriam Sanchez also provided some offense with a 41-yard make.

Mortimer Jordan (4-2) is off next week before visiting West Point on October 13.
