HANCEVILLE — After weeks of lengthy meetings to hammer out budget details and discuss upcoming projects, the Hanceville City Council breezed through a light agenda at its regular meeting Thursday.
The council passed only two items, both concerning event-related street closures in the month of October.
Both closures were unanimously approved at the request of Hanceville High School Band Director Steven Porter.
On Friday, Oct. 6, the city will detour traffic along Commercial Street for approximately half an hour to make way for the Hanceville High School Homecoming Parade.
That closure will begin at 2 p.m., and will affect the portion of the street running between Bulldog Lane and Dean Avenue. Park Road, at the intersection of Bangor Avenue and Park, will also close for the parade.
On Saturday, Oct. 14, the city will close roads around three intersections to accommodate the annual Mud Creek Marching Band Festival.
Bulldog Lane will close at its intersection with Commercial Street; Stadium Road will close just east of the old Chamblee Mill restaurant parking entrance, and Park Road will close just east of the main parking entrance to Veterans Park.
The council also reviewed a final copy of the FY 2018 budget it approved earlier this month. The newly-presented budget required no additional council action.
The next regular meeting of the Hanceville City Council will be held Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at city hall. A 6 p.m. public work session will precede the meeting.
