- Berlin businesses are seen here at U.S. 278 and County Road 747 in this Times file photo. Some Berlin residents are talking about incorporating the community which is home to a handful of small businesses and roughly a 1,000 residents living around the crossroads.
An election to make Berlin into Cullman County’s 12th municipality may be one step closer to happening, now that the latest petition to bring the matter to a vote has met all requirements.
Cullman County Probate Judge Tammy Brown sent out a notice Friday confirming that a new petition for an incorporation election at Berlin has complied with the requirements set by state law.

After a technical error derailed the first petition in August, Berlin-area resident Patrick Bates, who has spearheaded the incorporation effort, submitted a reworked petition on Aug. 21.
For the next step in the process, interested parties now have until Nov. 14 to file a written objection to the petition.
Objections should be sent to the Office of Tammy Brown, Judge of Probate, Cullman County Courthouse, 500 2nd Avenue SW, Room 101, Cullman, Alabama 35055.
Any objections being filed should specifically state the basis for the objection, and a copy of said objection will be served to the petitioner in accordance with state law.
For any questions about the petition, call the Probate Office at 256-775-4652.
