Gospel concert to benefit Good Samaritan Clinic slated for Sept. 18

With the date of this year’s Caring for Cullman benefit concert fast approaching, organizers are on the final leg of promoting an event that’s already seen ticket sales from as far away as Texas.

“There are very few fundraising events that have the kind of broad appeal that this one does, and that is by design,” Jolanda Hutson, executive director for the Good Samaritan Clinic, said Tuesday.

“We have the opportunity each year to reach outside of Cullman. Last year, for example, people traveled from Texas, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. The artists featured at the Caring for Cullman concert have a pretty significant following, so there’s quite a broad appeal.”

Slated for a 7 p.m. start time Sept. 18 at the Cullman High School auditorium, the Caring for Cullman benefit concert serves as the signature annual fundraiser for Cullman’s Good Samaritan Clinic, the area’s no-cost primary care provider for indigent patients.

Even though some will travel far to see the show, Caring for Cullman continues to take a locally-themed approach to the entertainment it hosts.

“We call it the Caring for Cullman concert because, on the one hand, our clinic provides medical care to the uninsured residents here in our own community,” said Hutson. “On the other hand, we bring in performers who have ties to this community; who have gone on to achieve phenomenal success in their fields.

“Every year we’ve done this, they’ve always agreed to come back home and give back to their community by helping to raise funds for the clinic by providing us with their time and talent.”

Gospel group Triumphant Quartet, which features former West Point resident Eric Bennett, will join other locally-connected acts including Paige Harbison and Bama Blu-Grace, a quartet composed of two husband-and-wife duos who all happen to call the Crane Hill community their home.

“We’re especially excited about Bama Blu-Grace this year, because they’ve actually nominated for three SGN [Southern Gospel News Scoops Magazine] Diamond Awards, and they’re really very sought after and kind of in demand right now,” said Hutson.

In addition to the standard $15 general admission ticket, there are a limited number of tickets available for a pre-show meet-and-greet session sponsored by Chik-fil-A. The session offers holders of the $25 tickets an opportunity to talk with the performers in a casual atmosphere, and also gives them access to preferred seating once the show begins.

Both general admission and meet-and-greet tickets are available locally at five ticket outlets, “and if people live outside of Cullman and order tickets, I will mail the tickets to them,” Hutson said.

Tickets are sold at the following locations:

Borden Family Pharmacy, 3190 Alabama Highway 157.

The Added Touch by Cullman Cabinet, 1735 Childhaven Road NE.

The Added Touch Too, 108 Clark Street NE.

Yates Chance Christian Bookstore, 1650 2nd Avenue SW.
