LOCAL ROUNDUP: Addison wins West Morgan Invitational; Wallace State cross country, volleyball in action

Addison’s volleyball team showed out in a big way during the West Morgan Tournament of Champions.
The Class 1A program, which has tallied a state title each of the past four seasons, polished off a strong 5-1 record over the weekend behind a masterful performance from reigning MVP Abbie Chambless — 44 kills, 16 blocks and seven aces — to notch the top prize at the annual event.
The Lady Bulldogs defeated Lexington, Good Hope, Lee-Huntsville, Deshler and Danville along the way. Their lone defeat came to 6A Florence.
Kendra Tyree (57 digs and 14 aces), Savannah Manley (35 kills, 10 blocks and four aces) and Cecilee Gaither (44 digs, 13 aces and 79 assists) also had terrific performances on the court.
Wallace State Cross Country
Wallace State’s cross country teams opened their fall slate over the weekend, competing in the Jacksonville State Strut’s Invitational.
It marked the first cross country meet for the Lions since 2008.
Victor Bravo had the quickest finish for Wallace State with a time of 17:40.00. Christopher Baker was only two spots behind Bravo at 17:47.90.
Dustin Howell (19:05.30), Jacob Guthrie (19:37.80), Brennan Wink (20:33.60), Morgan Smith (20:35.20) and Andrew Blair (21:58.70) rounded out the field for Wallace State.
Marlena Morales finished with the best time for the Lady Lions, clocking in at 17:43.20.
Taylor Barkley (19:25.10), Sofia Ramos (20:04.70) and Miriam Smith (21:11.10) also competed on the trails.
Wallace State travels to UAH for a meet on Saturday.
Wallace State Volleyball
The Lady Lions split six matches over the weekend at the Owens Community College Invitational in Toledo, Ohio.
Wallace State beat St. Clair County Community College (25-19, 25-19, 22-25, 25-19), 16th-ranked Illinois Central College (25-16, 25-20, 26-24) and 19th-ranked Muskegon Community College (25-17, 25-17, 25-20).
The Lady Lions fell to Grand Rapids Community College and McHenry County College in five sets and to top-ranked Parkland College.
Sophomores Kaylee Maddox, Abby Borden and Emily Wilson delivered for Wallace State. Maddox claimed 87 kills and 57 digs in the six-match outing, Wilson collected 95 digs, and Borden finished with 211 assists and 58 digs.
The Lady Lions also received stellar contributions from a handful of freshmen. Alex Wiggins finished with 38 digs and 35 kills over the weekend, while Lexie Riggins secured 45 kills, Maya Jones contributed 40 kills and Morgan Kyles provided 29 digs.
Wallace State begins conference play at Snead State on Wednesday. The Lions have won 42 straight conference matches under coach Randy Daniel, an impressive stretch spanning over three seasons.
