PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Cold Springs wins small-school title at Pepsi XC Challenge

That didn’t take long.

Cold Springs opened the cross country season with a strong showing and small-school title at the Pepsi XC Challenge in Moulton on Saturday.

C.J. Lang (third), Jonathan Collett (fifth), Trentan Williams (sixth), Cole Akridge (10th) and Seth Walker (12th) each garnered top-15 finishes to lead the Eagles (34) to a decisive victory over runner-up Altamont (68) in the Class 1A-4A competition.

Holly Pond, meanwhile, placed sixth overall following sublime efforts by Conner Lowery (14th), Parker Sellers (20th), Zackery Reynolds (22nd), Christopher Putman (40th) and Seth Self (51st).

In the large-school division, Quinton Chambers tallied a ninth-place outing to help Fairview take home fifth. A.B. Diaz (27th), Cody Fallin (28th), Keagan Hardin (31st) and Will Butler (32nd) rounded out the fastest runners for the Purple and Gold.

The Lady Broncos — behind Abigail Kusz (ninth) — finished fourth thanks to excellent performances from Tess Duke (16th), Korey Butler (36th), Madison Frnka (39th) and Taylor Stallings (50th) as well.

Alyssa Jackson (11th) and Sadie Terry (14th) sped to top-15 times for Cold Springs as individuals.
