A Hanceville man was arrested in Muscle Shoals after authorities there say he was caught stealing from a bread delivery truck driver who fought him and then chased him up a fence where he got stuck and had to be freed by police.

The TimesDaily newspaper reported Joshua Dustin Locke, 33, was charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, attempted to elude and giving law enforcement a false name.

The driver was making a delivery at a Chick-fil-A in front of Southgate Mall Thursday morning, and he found Locke inside the vehicle when he walked out, Reck told The TimesDaily

“He stole a backpack, keys and some other personal items out of the bread truck while the guy was inside Chick-fil-A making a delivery,” he said.

A fight ensued and then Locke took off running, but the driver managed to catch up with him in a nearby parking lot.

“They fought in the parking lot and while they were fighting, (Locke) dropped the items he had taken,” Reck said. “He was able to break free and took off running again.”

Police arrived on the scene and joined the pursuit, running Locke up a chain link fence between Shoals Hospital and Bojangles Restaurant where his clothes foiled his getaway.

“He got to the (chain link) fence and was trying to climb over to get away, but he didn’t make it,” Reck said. “He was just stuck up there on the top of the fence. Our officers had to stand on top of the patrol car to get him down. Thankfully, everything worked out and no one got hurt.”

Police said Locke was in the Muscle Shoals City Jail awaiting transfer to the Colbert County Jail.
