Good Hope approves deputy contract

GOOD HOPE — The City of Good Hope will retain a patrolling deputy from the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office after the City Council approved an agreement during Monday’s meeting.
The yearly agreement with the Sheriff’s Office provides Good Hope with a deputy who will be primarily dedicated to the city.

As part of the deal, Good Hope will provide Deputy Chad Chapman’s $40,000 salary for the year.
Mayor Jerry Bartlett said the city has been pleased with the work Chapman has done as the town’s assigned patrol deputy.
Bartlett also made a presentation about some of the road improvements that have been made around the city, which mainly involved the installation or improvement of culverts to improve drainage during heavy rains.
Bartlett also said the new turn lane and improvements to Good Hope School road have put the road in the best shape he has ever seen.
Councilman Maxie Jones said he has spoken to several residents who are very pleased with the work that has been done.

Councilman Greg Brown reported that the city’s Back-to-School Bash was a success, with good participation from residents.
Councilman Taft Dillashaw said a new half-court basketball goal will soon be installed at the Municipal Park, with a security light to be installed as well.
