Berlin Sunshine Club members met for their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. July 13, at the Berlin Community Center. President Patty Martin called the meeting to order and after announcements and prayer requests, Susie Smith provided devotion. Ann Bishop led the group in prayer.
A Mexican dinner was prepared and served by hostesses Wanda Hodge, Susie Smith and Patty Martin.
Joan Walker, club treasurer, gave the financial report. Gail Wood, secretary, read the minutes from last month’s meeting.
Club business discussion included the upcoming yard and bake sales for Sept. 30 at the Berlin Community Center. Club news reported in June incorrectly stated the sale would be on Sept. 29, so a correction was made. Pending further discussion at this meeting, the venue for the sale is subject to change. The location should be announced on or by the August club meeting.
Members were reminded to bring and solicit donations of good quality household items for this “upscale yard sale fundraiser” event. Especially needed: nice children’s clothing, toys, baby items, children’s books, glassware, furniture, kitchen gadgets, household, tools, and crafts. Prior to the sale, any larger donations can be dropped off with Patty Martin Monday through Friday at Martin Door on Highway 278 East, 5 miles from Cullman (across from the Berlin Community Center). A receipt can be provided for all donations. Bake sale items may be dropped off on the morning of the event only.
At this month’s meeting, Kathy Serpa agreed to seek permit approval for the bake sale items.
Jill Hollis agreed to investigate replacement of the worn American flag and flag stand on display inside the community center.
The club agreed upon the need for improvement of two flower beds in front of the community center. Approval was made to seek regular weed maintenance, fill in the beds with decorative rock. Patty Martin is to investigate a vendor to supply improvements.
A date of Saturday, Jan. 27, was approved at the June meeting for the next supper fundraiser. Food and activities still are to be discussed at future meetings. Be advised that the date for this event was incorrectly stated in club news last month.
Others attending the meeting were Jo Schaffer, Tootie Sanford, Doris Walker, Gail Wood, Becky Burks, Becky Cook, June Butts, and Wanda Hodge. No visitors attended.
After a game of Bingo, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be at a local restaurant, to be announced.
