Thunderstorms — bringing gusty winds, frequent lightning and locally heavy downpours — have caused flooding across southern Cullman County.

The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office closed Alabama 69 South earlier this morning due to flooding but have since reopened it. Other roads are damaged in the area and still covered in water. Drivers are advised to use caution when driving.

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected today and Saturday, with the highest coverage of storms during the afternoon hours, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville. The high will reach near 82 Friday and even higher Saturday at 85 with overnight lows in the low 70s.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are also possible Sunday through Wednesday, mainly in the afternoon hours. Gusty winds and locally heavy rain continue to be the main threats, according to the weather service.
