Dr. Wayne Williams was named principal of the school early this month, but this is not the first time Williams has worked for a Cullman school.

From 1998-2001, he was the principal of West Elementary, and spent 2001-2013 in the Shelby County School District as principal of Helena Intermediate School.

Williams said he has spent many years wanting to work in Christian education, and becoming principal of Cullman Christian School has fulfilled that goal.

“I am more honored to serve as principal of Cullman Christian School than any other position I have ever been in,” he said. “I consider it to be the greatest honor of my career.”

Williams has already made one change to the school’s day-to-day operations by adding a prayer and bible study session to the beginning of every school day. That change will begin on the first day of the new school year, he said.

“I can’t think of a better way to start the day,” he said.

Williams said the school is also looking to expand the school’s curriculum and extracurricular activities, and will implement an online learning program that will allow students to take a wide variety of courses that are taught from a Christian perspective.

On the horizon for Williams and the school is the construction of a new school building.

Right now, the school is in a three-year agreement with Seventh Street Baptist Church, so it will remain there for at least that long, Williams said.

He said he and the rest of the school are very grateful to the church for allowing the school to operate out of their facilities, and it is a tremendous blessing to be able to use the church.

“Many churches are not willing or able to share such space,” Williams said.

The land for a new school building on Golf Course Road has been purchased, and now the school is in a capital campaign to raise money for its construction.

To date, the school has raised around $300,000 of its $4 million goal, and will continue to host fundraising events and develop relationships with people in the community who can donate, Williams said.

For people who do want to support the construction, any amount they give can make a difference, he said.

“It’s the opportunity to make a difference,” Williams said. “Not just for one group of students for one school year, but it’s leaving a legacy that will be a blessing for children of the community for generations.”
