An investigation by the Wallace State Police Department led to the obtaining of the warrant for Clem’s arrest. She is accused of accessing student records in January of this year for purposes that lie outside the scope authorized by her former position at Wallace State.

According to the criminal complaint, obtained Monday afternoon, Clem is accused of having “knowingly and without authority…[o]btained any confidential information by a governmental or medical institution, to-wit: accessed student records without authorization or legitimate educational interests in violation of the Alabama Computer Crimes Act 13A-8-112…”

Both law enforcement and media relations at Wallace State declined to comment on the case Monday.

A resident of Limestone County, Clem is set to appear in Cullman County District Court on July 18. Computer tampering is a Class A misdemeanor in Alabama, punishable by not more than one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $6,000.

Clem was inducted into the Cullman County Sports Hall of Fame last spring following a successful 17-year career at Wallace State that included two women’s softball national championships under her guidance.

She was named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Coach of the Year in 2008, and again in 2013. She was also an 11-time recipient of Coach of the Year honors from the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC).

Clem left employment at Wallace State in March of 2016 and is currently an assistant softball coach at Calhoun Community College in Decatur.
