(Update) Power restored following thunderstorms

Severe thunderstorm loop

Fast-moving thunderstorms knocked out power for 2,000 residents Thursday afternoon, kicking off a weekend that’s forecast to see hit-or-miss showers. 

The Cullman Electric Cooperative reported crews restored power to all customers impacted by the severe weather by Thursday evening.

Behind the storms, patchy dense fog was forecast to settle over the area, lingering into this morning. According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, the weekend forecast will be miserably humid, with a high near 90 today. 

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected with a low around 68 tonight. Rain chances increase Saturday to around 40 percent, with a high near 90 and low around 69, and to 50 percent Sunday, with high around 89 and low around 70.
