Vietnam combat veteran, astronaut to speak at tonight’s Flag Day celebration

U.S. Army Brigadier General and astronaut Bob Stewart 

The Cullman Elks Lodge will host the Cullman Community Celebration of Flag Day at 7 p.m. today, at the lodge, 1609 Brantley Ave. NW.The free event is open to the public.

Flags will be on display from different periods in our history, patriotic songs and the guest speaker will be U.S. Army-Retired Brigadier Gen. Bob Stewart.

Stewart, a Vietnam combat veteran and helicopter pilot, was the first person in the Army to be a NASA astronaut. He flew two space shuttle missions and was the first astronaut to fly untethered from the spacecraft.
