Teachers, volunteers learn grant writing at Agriplex

Speakers included April Waltz of the Alabama Wildlife Federation's Outdoor Classroom, Lanie Williamson with the Cullman City Primary School and Rachel Dawsey with the North Alabama Agriplex.

The North Alabama Agriplex hosted a grant writing workshop for teachers and volunteers on Friday focusing on school gardens and outdoor classrooms.

Speakers included April Waltz of the Alabama Wildlife Federation’s Outdoor Classroom, Lanie Williamson with the Cullman City Primary School and Rachel Dawsey with the North Alabama Agriplex.

The group visited the Outdoor Classroom at West Elementary.

The Agriplex is hosting a variety of summer camps. To register, visit agriplex.org or call the office at 256-297-1044.

Camps include: Touring Farms for Kids, for ages 7 to 13 years, will be Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The two-day Cullman County farm tour also welcomes paying parents. The $25 fee includes food and T-shirts.

Garden camps for preschoolers and elementary children will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on June 21, 28 and July 12. Campers will work in raised beds at the Agriplex and take home projects. This camp is $35 a person.

An advanced sewing camp, for ages 9 and up, is from 9 a.m. to noon on July 18-21. This camp is designed for sewing camp alumnus and experienced hand sewers. Each camper will complete more complex projects using hand sewing and machines.

The basic sewing camp, for ages 7 to 12 years (5 and 6 years with adult), is from 9 a.m. to noon on July 27-28. Campers will learn the basics of hand sewing and make projects to take home. Each child will receive their own sewing kit. Both sewing camps are $35 a person.
