Weekend festival celebrates Memorial Day

Smith Lake Park will once again play host to the official kickoff of summer Saturday with music, arts and crafts and food.

From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Memorial Day Weekend Festival will take over the park with free admission for attendees, and the inaugural opening of the pool. Pool admission is $3.50 for children ages 5 and under and $5 for ages 6 and older.

Saturday’s musical lineup includes Kyle Kimbrell at 9:30 a.m., followed by Zach and Cheyloe at 11 a.m. At 12:30 p.m. there will be a break for the ice-cream eating contest with Sam Edwards starting the live musical entertainment back up at 1 p.m.

A tug-of-war contest is set for 2 p.m., followed by Ben Myrick at 2:30 p.m. before the water balloon toss contest at 4 p.m. Closing out the show will be Trey Lewis at 4:30 p.m.

Arts and crafts and food vendors will be on hand along with paid carnival games and rides. Plus, kayak, canoe and paddle board rentals, at $15 for two hours, are available, and you can play miniature golf for $3. 

No alcoholic beverages or fireworks are allowed in the park. Pets must be attended and on a leash at all times, and owners must pick up after them. Smith Lake Park also features basketball, volleyball, horseshoes, free boat launch and public fishing pier.
