Bomb threat empties courthouse

A bomb threat that led to the evacuation of the Cullman County Courthouse Tuesday morning remains under investigation.

The call was received at 9 a.m. at the courthouse just as probation revocation hearings and other business was getting under way, Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry said.

“We have several things to follow up on and will release additional information as it may come forward in the investigation,” Gentry said.

A team of law enforcement officers and emergency responders combed through the courthouse as workers and customers were evacuated. 

“The caller threatened to blow up the courthouse and we responded immediately. This is not the first time it has happened, but anytime a threat is made you take it seriously. It’s a serious offense to even threaten such an action and our investigation will be ongoing,” Gentry said.
