HANCEVILLE — If you’re a ‘Bama fan who’s been holding out for an original Daniel A. Moore sports painting to call your own, Saturday night may be your night.

The Hanceville Parent-Teacher Organization will have pieces by Moore and other nationally-known artists up for grabs at a silent auction Saturday evening, with the proceeds going toward program funding for the arts at Hanceville Elementary School.

“He [Moore] donated one of his pieces for us, and that’s just a really great gesture that has sort of jump-started our fundraiser,” said Hanceville first grade teacher Michelle Pender, busy Friday afternoon setting up table displays of student artwork.

“We just want people to come out and not only bid at the silent auction, but also take a look at some of the amazing things that our students have made. This is as much a celebration of our students as it is a fundraiser.”

The Hanceville Elementary Art Exhibit Gala kicks off at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Hanceville Elementary School Gym, and will feature sculptures, paintings and other student-made works of art on display alongside the auction items.

Admission to the gala is free. Funds raised at the auction will benefit the school’s art program, library and music program.

In addition to a Moore original, the silent auction also will feature work from LA Pottery’s Larry Allen and a still life painting from Birmingham-based artist Susan Baird.
