Bloomin’ Festival highlights area activities

One of spring’s most popular events unfolds today with the start of the Bloomin’ Festival at St. Bernard Abbey and Prep School.

Activities get under way at 9 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m. Mouth-water Monk Bread, arts and crafts and live music are promised throughout the day.

And if you can’t get enough, come back on Sunday, 9-5, for more of the fun. 

Follow U.S. 278 West until you see the sign directing to St. Bernard and the Ave Maria Grotto, which also has special rates during the festival.

There is a chance of rain on and off throughout today and for portions of Sunday.

 

April walking tours

The Cullman County Museum is hosting another April walking tour this morning, beginning at 10 a.m. at the steps of the Cullman County Museum, 211 2nd Ave. NE, across from Cullman City Hall. The tours is free. Also, the museum is open free on Saturdays in April. For more information, contact Drew Green at 256-739-1258. A free program guide will be given to all walkers.

Today’s tour will be led by Carolyn Peinhardt-Johnson. 

 

Crawfish boil

A crawfish boil fundraiser for United Way is at 4 p.m.today at Goat Island Brewing, 1646 John H. Cooper Drive SE-A. Tickets are $30. Proceeds go to support the 15 local agencies of United Way.

 

PALS clean-up

Volunteers with People Against A Littered State (PALS) will hold the county and city cleanups from 8 a.m. to noon today. 

Dumpster locations are: West and East Elementaries, Cullman and Cold Springs high schools, Baileyton Town Hall, Colony Community Center, Dodge City Fire Station, Fairview Community Park (across from Fairview Superette), Garden City maintenance area, Good Hope City Hall, behind Hanceville City Hall, Holly Pond/Lions Club Park, Jones Chapel School, Vinemont First Baptist Church, and West Point Town Hall. All 55-gallon drums must have multiple holes punched in them or they will be refused.
