PREP ROUNDUP: Fairview splits with Lee-Huntsville, sets up decisive Game 3 showdown

Fairview isn’t ready to go home just yet.

The Aggies kept their season alive following a 9-2 home victory over Lee-Huntsville in a first-round playoff matchup on Thursday night.

Preston Moore homered twice in the nightcap, including a three-run bomb in the first inning, to help his team bounce back from a 16-6 defeat in Game 1 of the postseason series.

Tyler Ball also came up huge for the Purple and Gold, scattering seven hits and six strikeouts in seven fantastic innings on the mound.

Fairview will battle the Generals on Friday at 5 p.m. for a coveted spot in the second round.

“We got knocked on our heels a little bit in the first game,” coach Brandon Tidmore said. “But I was proud of how we responded in the second game. We played well. Preston got us started with two early home runs, and that gave us some momentum. We went in there hoping to get to a Game 3, and that’s what we did. We bounced back and didn’t cave under the pressure.”

Moore (four RBIs), Truman Boyd (two RBIs) and Dayne Black all corralled three base hits for the Aggies, while Ball (one RBI), Garrett Dunn (one hit) and Lane Schnittker each recorded one hit in the triumph.

% Lee-Huntsville 16, Fairview 6: Ragan Ashley (two hits and one RBI), Truman Boyd (one hit and one RBI), Garrett Dunn (one hit and one RBI), Riley Carroll (one hit), Lane Schnittker (one RBI), and Dayne Black (one RBI) all contributed during the Aggies’ tough Game 1 loss on Thursday.

The Generals collected 16 hits and capitalized on six Fairview errors in the victory. 


Prep Soccer

% Cullman 8, Hartselle 1: The Black and Gold steamrolled the Tigers in a home match on Thursday evening.

Miguel Tizapa booted four goals, while Isaac Rodriguez tallied three for the Class 6A No. 4 Bearcats, who finished the regular season with a 12-6-1 record. Cole Gerding also pitched in a goal as well as three assists. Washington Sheffield, Peyton Brown, Joel Sanchez, Luis Rodriguez and Tizapa added one assist apiece for Cullman.

Coach Casey Harbin’s team opens postseason play with a road contest at No. 2 Fort Payne on April 29. 


Prep Softball

% West Point 5, Good Hope 4: The Lady Raiders picked up a tight home win over the Red and White on Thursday afternoon.

Makayla Brown (two hits and two RBIs) and Courtney Blackwood (one hit and one RBI) had nice days at the plate, while Molly Pendley, Lillie Burdette, Olivia Ball, Hope Shedd and Avery McClure each came away with one base knock.

Good Hope’s Alex Stansell swatted three hits in her team’s loss.
