Weston Norton came through with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in bottom of the ninth inning to propel Cullman to a 1-0 area triumph against Brewer on Senior Night.
The game was dominated by pitching — Will Morrison allowed just two hits and struck out 15 batters in nine terrific innings, while Dakota Bennett surrendered two hits to go along with 18 strikeouts in eight innings for the Patriots — but the Class 6A No. 2 Bearcats (25-6) took advantage of the road team’s bullpen when it mattered most.
Owen Lovell (double) and Jacob Heatherly (walk) led off the decisive frame with key at-bats before Carson Freeman moved them up a station with a sacrifice bunt.
After another walk to Trent Price, Norton stepped up to the plate and delivered a fly ball to left field to score the big run and improve the Black and Gold’s area record to 7-0 overall.
