Action from Fultondale’s 17-0 win over Holy Family Catholic.

FULTONDALE — It was like a hot knife through butter.

Pretty much any sports blowout cliche would summarize what the Fultondale softball team did to visiting Holy Family Catholic on Monday in Class 3A, Area 8 play. The Wildcats won both ends of a doubleheader by a combined score of 37-0.

Those wins (17-0 and 20-0) improved Fultondale to 3-0 in area play.

Senior right-hander Kayla Jasper got the call in Game 1, and tore through the Holy Family lineup for three innings. She allowed no runs, no hits and no one to reach base in the mercy-rule win. Jasper went home with seven strikeouts to her name.

On the offensive end, junior Kelsey Goodwin did damage in her two trips to the plate. First, she laced an inside-the-park home run into the left-center field gap to score three runs in the bottom-half of the first inning. Goodwin drove home another run in the second inning with an RBI double.

Jasper came through with two hits and an RBI. Crimson Russell connected with a two-run triple and Molly Trice did the job with a two-RBI single for Fultondale.

Junior Kayla Phillips pitched in with an RBI of her own in the lopsided win.

In an effort to move the game along, Fultondale intentionally left bases early, which automatically rules the base runner out.

Fultondale returns to action on Apr. 17 at Southeastern.
