The Morris walking park is receiving a facelift after more than 20 years. The gazebo has a newly shingled roof and other upgrades and beautification efforts are underway.

After more than 20 years, the buildings in the Town of Morris’ Walking Park are getting a facelift. The gazebo, a popular spot for photographers, weddings and just a cool place to relax, has received a new shingled roof as have the two other buildings in the park. Now that the roofing is finished, the buildings will be getting a fresh coat of paint and Anne Smith, a member of the Morris Town Council in charge of Parks and the Senior Citizens Center, is taking steps to further beautify the park by planting flowers and ornamental plants in the planters in the park. When the project is finished, the popular walking tract will not only be a useful outlet for walkers, but it will be a special and beautiful place for people to visit and just “sit a spell.”

On a different note, the Town of Morris is stepping up their efforts to try to keep the roads and highways cleared of debris, especially tree tops, tree limbs, and trimmings from shrubs and bushes. Starting immediately, trucks, trailers and any other vehicles hauling such items must be covered with a tarp or the loads properly secured, as required by law. Otherwise the drivers will be ticketed. A recent incident where a driver lost most of his load of tree tops, limbs, etc. on Highway 31, blocking the outer southbound lane of the highway, caused a serious problem. It could have resulted in a wreck, if a Kimberly officer had not been available and willing to block off that lane until the Street Department employee could clear the debris.
