WARRIOR — The Warrior City Council opened the sealed bids they had requested for the demolition of the properties at 133 Louisa Street. Ingle Demolition submitted the only bid for the project. The bid was $6,000 for the removal of the burned buildings, $3,200 for the removal of the former barbershop and $13,500 for the removal of the two-story building, for a total of $22,700.
The council approved the bid and the buildings will be removed.
The council had previously disagreed with the owners of one of the properties, who did not want to see the properties removed, but the council said they had tried to work with her for 12 years to no avail and the buildings now posed a significant threat to the public.
In other business, the council:
•approved a donation to North Jefferson Day.
•discussed recent traffic issues because of work to prepare Highway 31 for repaving. Ragland said the issues seem to have been related to a contractor doing work along the roadside to prepare and the actual paving crews would have flagmen and proper signage to control traffic once they begin.
