2 men face credit card fraud charges

Two men from out of state have been charged with multiple counts of credit card fraud after they attempted to make purchases at a convenience store on Alabama 157.
Employees at Marathon notified the Cullman Police Department of the men’s attempted purchases Tuesday and passed on a description of the vehicle they rode in upon leaving the store, according to a news release from the police department.
Officers David Brooks and Joe Duncan made a traffic stop on a black Lexus near Panda Express. The driver, Donnie Wakeen Briggs of South Carolina and Oumaru Kante of New Hampshire, the passenger, were in possession of seven credit cards. According to officers at the scene, the credit card numbers on the face of the cards did not match those on the magnetic strips. The two men also had three counterfeit $100 bills, according to police.
Briggs was charged with seven counts of illegal possession of a credit card and two counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument. Kante was charged with seven counts of illegal possession of a credit card and one count of criminal possession of a forged instrument, according to the police report.
Investigators Adam Clark and David Nassetta assisted the patrol officers at the scene and also reported finding910 packs of Newport cigarettes. The stamps on the cigarettes indicated they came from numerous counties across the state.
Briggs is being held at the Cullman County Detention Center on a $55,000 cash bond. Kante is jailed on a $45,000 cash bond.
