Letter to the editor: HB 201

Published 2:30 pm Wednesday, April 5, 2017

There is a bill before the state legislature, HB 201, that is important to pets in our state. There’s already a law, the Pet Protection Act, that requires owners to provide shelter for pets. HB 201 simply provides a clear definition of “shelter” and allows the officer or agent to provide direction to the owner so they are able to comply. It’s important for pets to have proper shelter and officers need a consistent definition in order to offer proper guidance to the owner.

There are only a few days left in the 2017 legislative session, so please ask your state representative to pass HB 201. It’s a simple, yet important, step to ensure pets are treated humanely throughout Alabama.
