Girls: Mortimer Jordan 6, Fairview 0
Mortimer Jordan started fast, pushing a goal through in the opening moments of the match to set the tone in what became a 6-0 drubbing of Class 5A, Area 12 foe Fairview.
Freshman Mackynzie Watson scored from the corner just two minutes into the area match. Sophomore Hope Rye later found the net with 17:40 left in the second half, ending things at 6-0. She accepted a pass just left of the box and skipped it off the keeper for a six-goal lead.
Senior Breanna Barber also finished with two goals for the home team. Both shots came in the first half to give Mortimer Jordan a 3-0 edge at the break. Her first make went high and off the fingertips of Fairview’s keeper nearly 20 minutes into the match. Eight minutes later, Barber dribbled into the center of the box, fought through traffic and rolled her second goal left of the keeper.
Mortimer Jordan started the second half just as quickly, as 8th-grader Kelsey Esco sent one in less than two minutes after the clock started. At the 25-minute mark, Barber crossed an assist to sophomore Allie Brazier, who beat the keeper in traffic.
The Blue Devils worked their way to 20 shots on goal while Fairview struggled to create opportunities on the offensive end, ending the match with one clean shot on goal.
