HANCEVILLE — With the spring paving season just around the corner, Hanceville’s leaders are targeting a handful of problem areas for resurfacing work throughout the city.
At its regular meeting Thursday, the council awarded two bids for leveling and resurfacing work to be done at three separate locations, including a 1,500-foot section of Helen Warren Vogel Street, a 1,400-foot stretch along McNutt Drive, and a 700-foot portion of Whaley Avenue.
All three street sections will be resurfaced with asphalt. The council awarded the asphalt bid to C.A. Langford Co. of Guntersville, and the leveling bid to Johns Paving of Holly Pond.
The asphalt work will cost the city $56 per ton, with an estimated total project cost of $53,200. The leveling work will cost $30.75 per ton, with trucking, with a total project cost of $29,525.
In other business, the council:
Approved bills payable for the month of March.
Set April 15 as the date of the Hanceville Citywide Yard Sale, and waived sale permit requirements for that date.
Adopted a resolution defining municipal capital assets as assets having an individual cost of at least $5,000 and a useful lifespan in excess of two years.
Amended the budget by $15,000 to accommodate down payment on a backhoe.
Reappointed Betty Dover to the city zoning board of adjustments, Place 5, for a three-year term.
Adopted a resolution stating the mayor and council’s opposition to Alabama legislative bills SB 31 and HB 58, and the exemption from pharmaceutical taxes proposed therein.
The next regular council meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 13, with a work session preceding the meeting at 6 p.m., at Hanceville City Hall.
