Dinner on First

The table is set for downtown Cullman’s Warehouse District to host Dinner on First to raise money for a playground designed for children of all physical abilities.

Cullman Parks and Recreation Foundation officials announced the second annual event will be held 6 p.m. May 12, with Dyron’s Lowcountry of Mountain Brook returning to serve up a decadent dinner on a 300-foot table running down the middle of historic First Avenue.

Last year’s event sold out at $100 per seat, netting $20,000 for the Cullman Parks and Recreation Department’s plan to build Connected Park. The goal is to raise $350,000 to fund construction.

Nathan Anderson, parks director, said site preparation is underway for the Connected Park project, and the park foundation continues to raise money toward its goal.

The project’s main fundraiser will see the return of an open-air dining experience spanning a city block complete with fully-set, candle-lit tables and rustic outdoor decor.

Dinner on First nabbed the city the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association’s (ARPA) “Innovative program or Event of the Year” award for cities with a population of more than 15,000 earlier this year in Montgomery.

“It’s such a worthy event, and it’s an honor for everyone associated with it to be recognized,” Anderson said. “We appreciate the community supporting the event, and it wouldn’t have been nearly as special last year without the involvement of all those who helped to put it on, and all who attended.”

If you plan to attend, you better act fast; tickets sold out quickly after the dinner was announced last year.
