Preston Moore, Fairview

Preston Moore’s performance at this year’s Cullman County Baseball Tournament was nothing short of extraordinary.

Just take a look at the stats.

In three meetings, the Fairview junior went 10-for-12 at the plate (.833 batting average), notching eight runs, six RBIs, three doubles, one triple and one walk to help the Aggies earn their first county title since 2008.

Along the way, the Samford commit helped the Purple and Gold storm past Holly Pond (20-0), Hanceville (7-0) and West Point (9-1) over two dominant days of baseball in Good Hope.

For those reasons, Moore was the quick pick for The Times’ Athlete of the Week honor.

He wasn’t the only one to turn in fantastic efforts, though.

Teammate Clay Lanier notched seven hits, five runs and five RBIs at the plate, while the pitching quartet of Jarrett Miller, Tyler Ball, Derek Jones and Matthew Holmes scattered 25 strikeouts, 11 hits, three walks and one earned run over 19 strong innings of work on the mound.

Athlete of the Week, which is sponsored by Bill Smith Buick GMC, is currently open to any spring-sport athlete. Nominations are often encouraged and can be submitted to jwinfrey@cullmantimes.com with the athlete’s name, school and statistics/accomplishments that make them a worthy candidate.
