% Cullman 7, Sparkman 5: The Bearcats wrapped up their time at the Perfect Game High School Showdown in Georgia with a victory against the Senators in the consolation game on Saturday.

Grayson Taylor (three hits and one RBI) and Weston Norton (two hits and two RBIs) were the top contributors for Cullman (11-3), while Jacob Heatherly, Will Morrison and Cooper Beck all secured one hit and one RBI each. Carson Freeman also had a base hit in the win.

The Black and Gold had their nine-game win streak snapped in a 7-0 loss to Blessed Trinity earlier during the day, which kept the team from reaching the championship.

Cullman, however, finished 4-1 at the prestigious event and received some more national attention in the process.

“It was very helpful for us,” coach Brent Patterson said. “Definitely something we can use moving forward. A lot of guys did some really positive things. Bats, while not consistent, are getting better. I was pretty pleased and proud of how we competed.”

% Carbon Hill 13, Cold Springs 3: Justin Jones hit a three-run homer, but the Eagles fell to Bulldogs on Saturday.

Jones ended his day with two hits and three RBIs, while Sam Rollo provided the only other hit for Cold Springs.

Cullman’s girls earned the silver division title at the Shamrock Invitational on Saturday.

The 6A No. 10 Lady Bearcats (11-2-1) defeated Hazel Green 2-1 in the championship.

Abby Branham and Jeta Falcon nabbed the goals, while Ninfa Moreno and Delly Kelly offered up an assist apiece.

On Friday, the Black and Gold bested Arab 2-1 and Helena 5-0 to put themselves in a good position.

Moreno scored two goals in the opener against the Knights, while Branham assisted on both scores.

In the nightcap, Branham booted four goals, and Bailey Gooch netted one.

Moreno (two) and Kelly (one) had the assists.

“The girls played great,” coach Jacob Brown said. “So far, a very successful season. Still a very young team, but the future is bright.”
