PREP ROUNDUP: Cullman’s Morrison tosses no-hitter in 8-1 win over Huntsville; Fairview clobbers J.B. Pennington

Cullman’s Will Morrison tossed a no-hitter during Saturday’s 8-1 road victory against Huntsville.

The Mississippi State commit dominated on the mound to help the Bearcats improve to 2-2.

% Buckhorn 1, Cullman 0: The Bucks scored the lone run of the game on a wild pitch by Jacob Heatherly in the sixth inning to collect the victory against the Bearcats.

Noah Fondren, Trent Price and Caleb Lipsey each had a hit for Cullman.

Owen Lovell was superb on the mound, giving up just two hits and an earned run to go along with five strikeouts in five innings of work.

% Fairview 18, J.B. Pennington 0: The Aggies plated seven runs in the first inning and 11 in the fourth inning to beat J.B. Pennington on Saturday.

Garrett Dunn (three hits and two RBIs), Clay Lanier (two hits and three RBIs) and Truman Boyd (two hits and three RBIs) did their part during the five-inning bout, while the latter also struck out six and allowed three hits in five strong innings for Fairview.

Other Aggie contributors were Riley Carroll (one hit and two RBIs), Lane Schnittker (one hit and two RBIs), Bryson Fletcher (two RBIs), Ragan Ashley (a hit and an RBI) and Preston Moore (RBI).

% Vinemont 15, Brindlee Mountain 3: The Eagles smashed the Lions on Friday evening behind a 17-hit performance in Game 1 of a home doubleheader.

Derrick Ransom and Corbin Barnett each netted four hits and three RBIs, while Clay Rogers (three hits and three RBIs), Garrett Boland (two hits and three RBIs) and Travis Hopper (two hits and two RBIs) also produced big numbers at the plate. Cody Stewart and Hudson Wood rounded out the effort with one hit apiece.

Dustin McGraw allowed six hits and struck out nine over six innings to earn the victory.

% Brindlee Mountain 11, Vinemont 5: The Lions got the better of the Eagles in the nightcap.

Hopper (a hit and an RBI), and Boland, Rogers and Wood (one hit each) were the top contributors for Vinemont. 


PREP SOFTBALL

% Vestavia Hills 5, Cullman 3: The Lady Bearcats dropped their final outing at the Hillcrest Patriot Classic on Saturday.

Each contest over the two-day event consisted of 60 minutes plus one inning.

Meredith McPherson paced Cullman (2-4) with two hits and an RBI, while Hannah Morton, Kennedy Wren and Tiffani Schwaiger also collected one hit apiece.

% Cullman 2, Grissom 1: Sierra Easterwood struck out nine batters and allowed just one hit and an earned run in six terrific innings during the Lady Bearcats’ opening matchup against the Lady Tigers.

Easterwood and McPherson each had an RBI hit, while Morton and McKensi Burks also swatted base knocks.

% Tuscaloosa County 6, Cullman 0: The Lady Bearcats couldn’t find the offense during Friday night’s defeat.

Easterwood, Morton and Olivia Schwaiger came up with the lone hits for the Black and Gold.

% Cullman 6, Northside 3: Easterwood (two hits and three RBIs) and Bailey Swann (two hits and an RBI) helped the Lady Bearcats secure their first win of the season on Friday.

Tiffani Schwaiger, Keslin Grimmett, Olivia Schwaiger and Gracie Cook (RBI) also pitched in one hit.

The latter Schwaiger notched the win in the circle, scattering eight hits, six strikeouts and three earned runs over five innings.
