BIRMINGHAM — Holly Pond’s boys ran to gold in the Class 1A-3A 4×200-meter relay, while Cullman’s girls took up two of the three spots on the podium in the 6A-7A pole vault during Day 1 of the state indoor track and field meet at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Todd Schwab, Dylan Morton, Mason May and Jarrett Miller combined for a great time of 1:36:96 in the Green and White’s title effort, which spearheaded a stout overall performance for the Broncos on Friday.
Schwab and May were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the triple jump event, while the latter (seventh) and Miller (fourth) qualified for Saturday’s 60-meter hurdles competition with nice showings in the preliminaries. On the girls side, Haley Higginbotham secured her position in Saturday’s finals as well with an eighth-place outing.
Ann Carol Braswell — one year after securing bronze — garnered a gold medal following a 10-03 leap in the pole vault for the Lady Bearcats. Anna Franklin placed second in the same event, while Tanner Jackson tallied silver in the shot put for the Black and Gold.
Other sublime athletes to medal included: St. Bernard’s Leahrose Mami (second in 3,200-meter run); Cold Springs’ Jared Stanley (second in 3,200-meter run); Addison’s Emee Baldwin (third in pole vault); and West Point’s boys 4×200-meter relay squad (third).
