BIRMINGHAM – Several local track and field athletes turned in fantastic performances at the Last Chance Invitational over the weekend.

The final event before the state indoor meet – which takes place Friday and Saturday at the Birmingham Crossplex – offered young kids from all across Alabama one last chance to hone their skills before competing in the season’s biggest showdown.

BOYS

Class 1A-5A

Cold Springs

Trevor Slayton (11th in pole vault); Jared Stanley (16th in 1,600-meter run); C.J. Lang (18th in 1,600-meter run)

Holly Pond

Matt Cahoon (first in high jump, third in shot up and 14th in triple jump); Jarrett Miller (fourth in high jump and 16th in 60-meter hurdles); Mason May (eighth in triple jump and 20th in 60-meter hurdles); Todd Schwab (11th in triple jump)

West Point

Hunter Appling (second in pentathlon, second in 1,000-meter run, second in 60-meter hurdles, 12th in long jump and 16th in high jump); Joshua Couch (15th in 60-meter dash)

Class 6A-7A

Cullman

Garrison Hill (first in pole vault); Tanner Jackson (fifth in shot put); Colton Smith (14th in high jump); Joey Franklin (20th in 3,200-meter run)

Emee Baldwin (fourth in pole vault and 12th in 60-meter hurdles)
