The reigning Mr. Baseball, Class 6A Player of the Year and Super All-State selection was chosen by MaxPreps as the top player in the state of Alabama on Wednesday. According to the popular high school sports website, the picks were based on players who’ve earned the most statewide and/or national acclaim during their prep careers.
Not a problem for Lovell.
The Mississippi State signee batted .392 with 14 home runs, 15 doubles, 64 RBIs and 47 runs in 2016. On top of that, he had a robust .739 slugging percentage and amassed a .516 on-base percentage for the Bearcats.
Oh, he also produced a 7-1 record on the mound with 59 strikeouts, three shutouts and a 1.43 ERA.
Cullman went 41-14 last season and finished runners-up in the Class 6A state championship series.
