PREP SPORTS: Cold Springs’ Crider tabbed Athlete of the Week
Published 4:16 pm Tuesday, January 24, 2017
- Camryn Crider, Cold Springs
There isn’t a whole lot Camryn Crider hasn’t accomplished so far this season.
The Cold Springs sophomore has handled point guard duties for the Class 2A No. 5 Lady Eagles, averaged a team-best 19 points per game since Christmas and garnered numerous 3-pointers, assists and steals to help her squad boast a 22-2 record as it gets ready to defend its Cullman County Tournament title this week.
Before celebrating the potential team crown, however, Crider must first enjoy her selection as The Times’ Athlete of the Week.
She sank seven 3-pointers and scored 23 points in a 59-33 victory against Good Hope, collected 11 in a 63-10 win versus St. Bernard that punctuated a 6-0 regular season area mark and netted 14 in a 74-52 loss to 4A No. 2 Madison Academy, which is a huge favorite, along with No. 1 Deshler, to win the state championship this season.
Not too bad for an athlete who rarely comes out of games for rest or water breaks.
Teammates Emme Willoughby (39 points) and Elizabeth Hill (30 points) also produced great performances in the trio of Blue and Gold victories this past week. Willoughby had six rebounds and five assists against the Lady Saints, while Hill dished out six rebounds, four blocks, four assists and three steals against the Lady Raiders.
Athlete of the Week, which is sponsored by Bill Smith Buick GMC, is currently open to basketball, indoor track/field, and bowling athletes. Nominations are encouraged and can be submitted to jwinfrey@cullmantimes.com with the athlete’s name, school and statistics/accomplishments that make them a worthy candidate.
